Blossom Booties

I first created this cake for my daughter’s christening in 2007. The design was based on a pair of little frilly knickers I bought for her.
I ‘ve always loved the combination of pale blue and pink and this translated beautifully into this pretty, yet sophisticated design.

Julia Booties

The idea for the booties came from Anne Smith’s “Creative Christening Cakes” where she features this idea in a pure white style. I wanted to offset the large whimsical flowers on Julia’s cake so I came up with painting the blossoms in varying hues of pink. The result was quite dramatic and resulted in on of the most requested cake designs that I’ve created.

Amelie

The latest adaptation of this design was for Amelie’s christening. As you can see my technique has changed somewhat over the last few years, the finish is much better!! The booties too, I feel, have improved.

Each pair requires over 300 blossoms which are cut, individually shaped and tinted. It’s a very time consuming and laborious process, but one which illustrated just how rewarding sugar artistry can be!
