A little touch of vintage…

This cake was created for a christening. It is a combination of a couple of Confetti Cake’s – of NYC – anemone cake designs. The client sent me a picture and wanted this cake but with that amount of flowers in this colour… well, the instructions were clear! This was my first time making the beautiful anemone flower and I must say I loved making them and will most likely use them again – soon!

DSC_9033I love it when someone contacts me for a cake that isn’t your run-of-the-mill type of thing.Don’t get me wrong, I love creating all sorts of types of cakes for my clients but sometimes you tend to repeat the same style as it is so popular, again and again and again – I tend to become a little jaded sometimes!!

This client didn’t really know what she wanted so I pounced! How about a painted design? As soon as I saw the invitation I knew what the design would be and, luckily, the client trusted my vision and left it up to me. Yay!

What I love the most is the tattoo-like effect this design projects. The couple were very happy so, mission accomplished!

This was my first large sculpted cake. It is actually to scale.
I have a red Fender Strat (from my wild, rocking youth… um well, not quite) and I traced the shape out on baking paper and went from there. Cut the guitar out and ganached the body and neck separately, let them set and then joined them on a large board and put another thin layer of ganache over the entire guitar so that it was all uniform and the same height. The frets, knobs and tuning keys are all made of fondant. Read more →
